About This Business
A nature reserve on Whitby's Lake Ontario shoreline preserving the last remnant of old-growth white pines on the lake's north shore - a renowned stopover for migrating songbirds each spring and fall. Saved from logging in the 1980s by the volunteer-run Thickson's Woods Land Trust, which later purchased an 8.5-acre meadow to buffer the woodland. Natural trails run through mixed forest, meadow and provincially significant wetland to 400 metres of Lake Ontario shoreline, with the Waterfront Trail passing through the heart of the reserve. Birdwatchers and nature photographers are frequent visitors; admission is free.
