Farms & Farm Shops
Family-run farm and year-round farm market in Ashburn, north Pickering, on Lakeridge Road. The farm store sells fresh seasonal produce, including fruit and vegetables grown on the family's own land, and a full range of baked goods made in its on-site bakery: eight kinds of fruit pies baked with homemade fillings, butter tarts made with real butter, and breads made from stone-ground flour milled from locally grown spring red wheat and rye (the same flours are sold in the store). Also stocked are homemade jams and preserves, farm-fresh eggs from the farm's free-range hens, and naturally raised beef, pork and chicken from pasture-fed, free-range animals raised without growth hormones, with custom-cut sides of beef available. The farm grows about 15 apple varieties in its own 18-acre orchards, plus pumpkins, squash, cabbage, cauliflower, root vegetables, hanging baskets, cut flowers and perennials. The business began in the 1970s with the Bibb family selling roadside vegetables, with Carol Bibb's roadside pies starting on Grey Cup weekend in 1980. The same 93-acre property is also home to Hy-Hope's 18-hole executive golf course, winter tobogganing and seasonal events such as summer concerts. Pickup orders for bakery goods can be arranged by calling the store ahead.
