About This Business
A kid-sized model village built for hands-on safety learning, with tiny streets, working traffic lights, an operational railway crossing, battery cars and bikes on a 1.2-acre site. Around 15,000 Durham students a year visit on school field trips - over 200,000 children since it opened - learning road, cycling and fire safety from Regional Police officers, local firefighters and paramedics. The public is welcome at family events including the Halloween Haunt, Christmas in the Village, the Easter Eggstravaganza and the Summer Drop-In program. It is a volunteer-board-run registered non-profit charity (board includes DRPS and the Rotary Club of Oshawa Parkwood) on a site donated by the Durham District School Board - not town-run.
