About This Business

Durham Region Transit's Specialized Services is the region's public paratransit program for residents with disabilities who cannot use conventional transit for all or part of their trip. Eligibility follows the AODA categories of unconditional, temporary and conditional, and is based on functional ability rather than disability type, income or age. Trips are provided door-to-door using accessible buses, contracted accessible taxis and sedan taxis, and customers whose abilities require a support person can have one travel free with a Support Person Card. Reservations are made through an automated trip reservation system, and eligibility applications are completed with a physician. The service covers all of Durham Region - Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Clarington, Scugog, Uxbridge and Brock - and is administered from the Region of Durham Headquarters at 605 Rossland Road East in Whitby. The DRT call centre takes calls Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
