The Official Town Band of Clarington, a volunteer community wind ensemble formed in 1992 that continues a town band tradition in the area dating back to the first documented band concert in Bowmanville in 1848. The band brings together brass, woodwind and percussion players from across Durham Region and the GTA, performing a wide repertoire of classical transcriptions, original compositions, big band arrangements, movie scores, Broadway musicals, traditional marches and the occasional waltz. Its year-round public programme includes fall and spring concert series, summer park concerts in Bowmanville, Newcastle and Orono, Christmas concerts, parades, performances at senior residences, and appearances at community fairs and festivals. Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 at John M. James Public School in Bowmanville.
