About This Business

The Blackstock Cartwright Lions Club is a volunteer service club chartered in 1980, serving Blackstock, Cartwright Township and the surrounding Scugog area as part of Lions Clubs International. Members meet at 7pm on the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Blackstock Recreation Centre, 3440 Church Street, Blackstock. The club runs community fundraisers including scrap metal collection with pickup, bottle and can collection, and event BBQs, and supports local causes through donations to schools, children's sports and camps, vision screening, the H.E.L.P. health equipment loan program, and Lakeridge Health Port Perry. All money raised from public events is donated back into the community, and new members are always welcome.

Charities

100 Men of Scugog

100 Men of Scugog is a charitable giving circle of local men supporting Scugog-area charities. Members gather for one-hour meetings at the Port Perry Legion, where three local charities each give a five-minute presentation and answer questions; members then vote and each writes a $100 cheque directly to the winning charity. Every dollar goes straight to local charity — there are no committees, no bank account and no fees. Founded in January 2015, the group celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2025 and has raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars for Scugog-area charities to date, including creating a bursary for Durham College students. New members are welcome at quarterly meetings.

41 Port Perry Army Cadets

The 41 Port Perry Army Cadet Corps is a free youth program for ages 12 to 18, and the fourth-oldest cadet corps in Canada, formed in 1898 and affiliated with the Ontario Regiment. Cadets build leadership, citizenship and self-confidence through drill, marksmanship, music, fitness and community service, and the corps is active at Scugog community events including Remembrance Day ceremonies and parades. The corps parades on Monday and Wednesday evenings during the training year and new cadets can join through the online application on its website. Co-sponsored by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 419.
