About This Business
The Beaver River Museum is a volunteer-managed local history museum in Beaverton, operated by the Beaverton Thorah Eldon Historical Society, which was established in 1976 to preserve the heritage of Beaverton and the former townships of Thorah and Eldon. The museum complex sits beside the Beaver River at the edge of Mill Gate Park on Simcoe Street and comprises four historic buildings housing more than 10,000 artefacts and archives, including an 1850s log cabin, a turn-of-the-century brick house and a mid-19th-century stone jail furnished with local artefacts. The society offers programmes for all ages, hosts special events, and maintains a local history archive with a meeting and display area, curator's office and collection storage; roughly 1,000 visitors tour the buildings each season. It is one of three museums in Brock Township. Published museum building hours: 18 May to 30 June and September, weekends only, 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm; July and August, Thursday to Monday, 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
