Community Development Council Durham (CDCD) is a not-for-profit social planning organization serving Durham Region since 1970, delivering research, community development and front-line social services. Its Newcomer Settlement Services satellite operates at the Whitby Public Library Main Branch weekly on Mondays and Fridays, offering free, confidential, culturally sensitive settlement support to newcomers, immigrants and refugees: orientation and settlement information, help with immigration documents and government applications, medical supports including the Interim Federal Health Program for uninsured persons, housing, education, employment and English classes, plus referrals to community programs.
